Be aware of spills

Moisture is considered the biggest enemy of hardwood floors. It can undo all installation efforts and undermine the strength and beauty of the flooring. Install hardwood floors only in prescribed locations – never below grade, or in areas known for high-moisture content, including humidity. Preventing hardwood flooring’s exposure to moisture is the most important consideration once it is installed and ready to use. Spills should be cleared at once. Standing water can penetrate the wood, causing the finish to split and the wood itself to expand, making your flooring warp and cup. Hardwood floors are therefore not recommended
for bathrooms and laundry rooms.  Popular use in kitchens has been a trend in the last few years, but are most successful when attention to moisture issues are strictly observed.

Weekly maintenance

Sweep with a soft, fine bristle broom to clean dirt and grit when cleaning hardwood floors on a daily or weekly basis. Place mats at all exterior entrances to keep away the dirt, grit, and debris from coming upon the floor.  Vacuum the hardwood floors with a soft brush attachment. The floor can be wiped later with a damp mop (never wet). Excess water when cleaning hardwood floors should be avoided at all times.
